The open source software OpenEMM 25.04 makes it even easier to automate cross-application email processes. To this end, OpenEMM 25.04 offers a new callback API for triggering webhooks, as well as connectors for the two integration platforms Make and N8N.
The user interface introduced in the previous version 24.10 has been expanded and optimized based on user feedback.
Connecting OpenEMM with third-party systems
To fully exploit the potential of email and marketing automation, OpenEMM should not be a stand-alone solution, but should ensure integration with other applications. That’s why OpenEMM now supports the well-known integration platforms Make (make.com) by the Munich-based company Celonis and N8N (n8n.io) by the Berlin-based startup of the same name. Both platforms are based in Germany, making them GDPR-compliant and not subject to the US Cloud Act.
OpenEMM can be integrated with a variety of other applications such as CRM systems, CMS software, or AI agents via Make and N8N to automatically exchange, transform, and enrich data. To support OpenEMM, AGNITAS, as its developer for Make and N8N, offers its own connectors. These connectors use the new callback API for webhooks and the REST API of OpenEMM internally to read and write data. OpenEMM users only need to grant access to these two APIs.
About OpenEMM
OpenEMM is the software for customized and automated email communication at no cost, because OpenEMM is permanently free of charge thanks to its open source license. Since emails can be sent directly without a paid SMTP gateway, there are no hidden costs.
OpenEMM is equally suitable for newsletters, multi-stage campaigns, transactional emails, service emails, and autoresponders. An integrated WYSIWYG and HTML editor support the design of mailings and forms. Numerous graphical and tabular statistics enable detailed performance evaluation.
Campaign manager
With the help of the intuitive campaign manager, users can plan even complex email campaigns themselves. For example, emails can be triggered by a deadline or a specific event, such as an online order, a subscription, or a service request. For multi-stage campaigns, different execution paths can be defined depending on responses.
Interfaces
Interfaces such as SOAP and REST API, as well as the new callback API for webhooks, enable native connection of OpenEMM to third-party systems. Connectors for the integration platforms Make and N8N also enable the automation of cross-application workflows.
Data protection
OpenEMM ensures GDPR compliance with its own data protection features. The semi-annual release cycle ensures that OpenEMM is always up to date with the latest technical and legal requirements.
OpenEMM users are free to decide where they want to run the software, giving them complete control over data protection and data security. Direct access to the source code allows for security inspections and customizations. This makes OpenEMM an important building block for digital sovereignty.
Connectors
The use of OpenEMM connectors for an integration platform such as Make or N8N also strengthens digital sovereignty: Concerned about the effort involved in interface development, users no longer have to commit to a single provider offering everything from a single source, but can instead put together the best providers for their needs (“best of breed”). Individual providers can be replaced as needed, so that users are not forced to make a costly and risky complete change when changes are required.
Installation and OpenEMM Plus
With the OST administration tool, OpenEMM can be installed, configured, managed, and updated on a Linux server in your own data center or at a trusted host. Thanks to an OVA version, OpenEMM can also be installed on Windows or other operating systems using the open source virtualization software VirtualBoxTM.
To get the most out of the software, OpenEMM is extensively documented, from the installation guide and user manual to context-sensitive online help, all available in German and English. In addition, numerous video tutorials support users in various tasks. Even the database schema is documented, allowing direct access to the raw data. OpenEMM users can also exchange tips and tricks and discuss problems via the free support forum.
For OpenEMM users who find the scope or performance of OpenEMM insufficient, AGNITAS offers OpenEMM Plus with various commercial extensions for even more use cases or a seamless upgrade to the licensed version of its big brother EMM (E-Marketing Manager), which is also client and multi-server capable.
